Some great competition will start the day off here in Division V, with the young lady who finished off the spring track season as the nations top prep distance runner, Jordan Hasay (Mission Prep, San Luis Obispo) hoping to lead her team to a repeat title. With the emergence of frosh star Annie Mooney, who will try to hold off Central Valley Chrisian’s Chelsey Wilgenburg, Mission will hope to roll to another championship, with CVC enough talent to keep the San Luis Obispo area defending champs honest. Clovis North, newest of the direction named institutions in that town, has Jennifer Nakamura, who will run well under 20:00 here today.

San Joaquin Memorial was a close second last year, with sixth placer Erin Orme strong this Fall, upstart Firebaugh showing up with a revitalized line-up, with Linda Ramos and Patricia Martinez quick improving frosh, and McFarland, with 2006 third placer Ruby Lara and frosh Corina Garcia heading a comebacking squad who has moved up the rankings ladder this Fall. Melinda Magee (Taft) was top five here last year.

3 3 Brittany Hodges Clovis High Fr 19:15 6:13 851

Buchanan ruled the roost last year with a near perfect score at this level, with a good race here taking home another championship team award. The squad gapped within 40 seconds 1-7 behind Chelsea Janzen at 19:28 in what looked like a controlled TRAC League Finals effort here on the Woodward course. From down south, a steadily improving Stockdale squad, led by very capable Ashley Nolasco, hopes to challenge the other Clovis area groups and Madera. Emily Hamilton led a solid trio under 20:00 for Clovis East at Woodward in the TRAC Finals runner-up effort to Buchanan, with TRAC third placers Clovis able to score very, very low off 2006 Section Div II Champ Meghan Marvin and Saylah Barserian, with hopes all of the rest of the talented squad is out on the course this day. Clovis West edged Madera on the sixth runner rule for fourth in the TRAC League meet, with Chloe Allen (CW) and Carina Mendoza (Madera) fine individual team leaders for those groups. Super frosh Lyndsie Etherton has had a fine Fall and will be competitive up front in this field as one of the state’s fine first year runners for Bullard, with Allyssa Mejia (Reedley) a fine second to Etherton in the CMAC League meet.

Defending Champ Clovis is up to Division I. Centennial (Bakersfield) is coming off a strong and very competitive South West Yosemite League meet where they put three well under 20:00 at Hart Park in Bakersfield behind Ashlee Thomas. Golden West was 27 in the West Yosemite League Meet, with Crystal Gonzalez taking that race and four other teammates in the top eight. The battle between the two should be worth watching. Top ten finisher Katie Pettis (Porterville), improved Breanna Diaz (Delano), could be joined by Ellie Aguilera (Lemoore) and Molly Pahkamaa (El Diamante) near the front individually.

15 Maleny Rodriguez Hanford High So 22:07 7:08 659

Tulare HS is blessed with the soph Tallon twins, Ashley and Haley, up front, with the squad gapping 1-5 within a minute of sub-20 minute star here at Woodward, Ashley, in their East Yosemite League Finals romp. Yosemite (Oakhurst) has Julie Warmerdam at close to 20:00 here this fall at Woodward, leading the next 1-5 group on paper. Shafter will score very, very low off 2006 Divisional runner-up Cassandra Salazar and champ Elizabeth Wittenberg, with its rear scorers hoping to close the gap a bit here today. Madera South and Mt. Whitney appear quite close on paper heading into the championship run. Hallie Meadows from Frontier, a two year old school in Bakersfield, will run here and could take home the school's first section individual title in the sport.
